The Christian Education Journal: Book Review Requirements

The Christian Education Journal is focused on strengthening the conception and practice of Christian education in church through improved teaching in the discipline of Christian education, reflection on the foundations of Christian education and offering new book reviews in the field of Christian education. Christian Education Journal is a member of the Committee of Publication Ethics. Book Review Editor is Jane Carr of the Talbot School of Theology, Biola University. The book must be related to Christian education and theology, our relationship with God and formation of Christ likeness. Book reviews are submitted in an electronic format as a Word attachment (single-spaced, Times New Roman, 12 Front Size, No Page numbers). The name of the book reviewed and reviewer should be listed on the message line. A book review must be submitted together with a signed publishing agreement form. Book reviews should be submitted to the relevant Review Area Editor.

Publication is done quarterly (April, August and December). Book reviews are brief, 1000-2000 words in length, written in APA format. Direct quotations are accompanied by page-number citations and citations to literature are inserted parenthetically. The headline bibliographical data for the review should follow this order: book title in italics, writer’s name (1st name, initial, last name), place of publication & date of publication, page numbers, price and paperback.  A book review must have the book’s central thesis, a description of its main structure plus an evaluation of the content. A book review starts with a summary of what the book is about to help the reader know the main points. Identify the main topic or the problem being addressed and the conclusion. The reviewer should show how the book is organized and the organizing framework. Book reviews should address selected issues rather than all the issues because of limited space.

Half of the review should be evaluative. Evaluation should take at least a half portion of the space and must show how the author carried out the project. Book review further should be well organized, written, thoughtful and fair.

Journal of Psychology

Journal of Psychology is a peer-reviewed journal published by Biola University. It has operating since its inception in 1973. Its purpose is to communicate recent thinking on integration of psychological and Christian theological concepts, as well as to factor in the application of such concepts to different professional settings.  The editor’s major intent is present the evangelical community with articles that influence the nature of mankind from the Biblical perspective. Journal of Psychology (JPT) is a quarterly journal, meaning publication is done three times a year. The Book review Editor is Zachary Wood.

Book review submissions must be from the field of psychology and theology. JPT According to reviewer guidelines, a book review must be between 1000-1500 words. Word and LaTex files are the preferred formats for submission. Regarding the writing style and format, the review must be concise and readable, references in APA citation, quotes used sparingly and use professional tone. The review must identity the main topic or the problem being addressed and the conclusion reached by the author. The reviewer must obtain necessary perform from copyright holders for use of direct quotations. Chapter by chapter summaries are discouraged and summaries must make up a minor part of the overall review.  The review must interact with the book’s strengths and weakness and highlight interrelationships raised by the book. Reviews must be original and submission is free. JPT takes issues of plagiarism serious in order to protect rights of authors and the journal itself against misuse and copyright infringement. To submit book reviews, one must have an account with JPT or create one if there is none.
