The most important provisions of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) include expansion of health coverage and improvement of preventive and public health services. The law builds prevention into coverage expansion, and establishes new funding and mechanisms for various public health programs and activities (Chait, & Glied, 2018). Making health coverage accessible and more affordable increases the number of people with coverage. By financing community-based public health and prevention programs, ACA can help start to decrease inequalities and improve access to preventive services. The law expanded access to preventive and primary care by mandating that all insurers offer preventive services minus cost sharing in addition to expanding access to coverage for these preventive services. The coverage of preventive care at no cost has provided millions of patients with free access to primary care, cancer screenings, and vaccines. The law has made an investment to expand access to primary and preventive healthcare in underserved areas through health centers. The law allocates $9.5 billion for patient services and operations in community health centers and an additional $1.5 billion for renovation and construction (Chait, & Glied, 2018). The ACA increased federal funding for community health centers (CHCs). The establishment of Community Health Center Fund for the construction, expansion and operation of health centers is very critical. These CHC give care to underserved populations and areas (Brenda. 2015). CHC stress on coordinated preventive and primary services that promotes decreases in health inequalities for low income people, rural communities, racial and ethnic minorities.  Section 2951 of Title II of ACA highlights requirements for publically sponsored home visiting programs for mothers, young children and infants.

School-based health centers enhance overall health of children via health promotion, health screenings as well as disease prevention activities. The ACA provides funding to address pressing capital needs to enhance delivery of services at school-based health centers. National Health Service Corps (NHSC) places nurses inn underserved communities and areas for two years in exchange for settling down their student loans (Wakefield, 2020).
