Strategic Plan Summary
The term organizational culture is used to generally define the values and beliefs that reflect the traditions and norms of an organization (Wagner, 2020). It also refers to the shared assumptions about the correct way to think, feel or behave within an organization (Mannion, & Davies, 2018; Wagner, 2020). In the healthcare system, organizational culture comprises views about patient needs, ideas on professional roles, expectations about service quality, and other different aspects associated with healthcare practice (Mannion, & Davies, 2018). For any change to be effectively implemented in the healthcare sector, it should be supported by an appropriate organizational culture. The current capstone project is an important nursing intervention that is concerned with the promotion of disease prevention and control among marginalized groups. The implementation of this change is likely to face various challenges. These include increased health needs, high healthcare expenses, and lack of enough healthcare personnel (Fawaz et al., 2018). There is need to address these challenges through an effective strategic plan. This can help to improve the health outcomes of the marginalized populations that are being targeted.
The creation of any strategic plan begins with the formation of a team of experts. This team should be knowledgeable on what needs to be done for the proposed project to be implemented in a successful manner (Samonte & Vallente, 2018; Ray, 2021). The proposed capstone project should include various healthcare professionals, including nurses, physicians, pharmacists, administrators, managers, and other experts. The views of all these professionals can be important in the planning and implementation of the nursing intervention pertaining to the health of the marginalized groups. After forming the team, there is need to set clear nursing care goals. The purpose of the current proposed project is to improve the health of the marginalized people through control and prevention of the diseases affecting them. This primary objective should be guided by goals that focus on quality, safety, efficiency, timeliness, and patient-centered care (Martin, 2018; Samonte & Vallente, 2018). These goals are important for the successful implementation of the planned project.
After setting goals, next is to embark on the identification of different areas of concern. The targeted marginalized communities experience negative health outcomes due to great disease burden. Many of the groups live in areas that are lack enough healthcare facilities and providers. Due to poverty and stigmatizations, some do not access quality care services. All these are possible areas of concern that should be addressed by the planned change. Therefore, it is necessary to determine the expected outcome that is likely to be brought by the change (Jeffs et al., 2013; Martin, 2018). Lastly, after knowing the areas that are of concern, it is important to make a decision on the kind of changes that need to be made. This is due to the fact that it is not all changes that lead to improvements. Therefore, it is necessary to recommend changes that are likely to work. These include changes that result in reduced wastage and those that can lead to increased productivity and efficiency (Nelson, 2014; Ray, 2021). For the sake of the project at hand, it will be necessary to go for changes that can directly address the issue of disease among the groups that are considered to be marginalized.
