Stakeholder Support

Stakeholder support is necessary for a successful project implementation. Consider your internal stakeholders, such as the facility, unit, or health care setting- HOME HEALTH/MEDICAL-SURGICAL UNIT where the change proposal (refer to the change proposal ORDER #13717) is being considered, and your external stakeholders, like an individual or group outside the health care setting. Why is their support necessary to the success of your change proposal, and how you will go about securing that support?

Stakeholders refer to individuals and corporations that have vested interests in a given project. These entities tend to be actively involved in the operations of the project since they have something to lose or gain depending on how that project is implemented (Wu et al., 2019). In the healthcare sector, stakeholders include healthcare providers, healthcare consumers, policy makers, partners, and insurers. In this case, internal stakeholders include those who are committed to the provision of service (Ndlela, 2019; Wu et al., 2019). These include healthcare workers, administrators, and volunteers. On their part, external stakeholders are those who get affected by service quality (Cho et al., 2020). They include clients and partners such as governmental organizations and health insurance providers.

Both internal and external stakeholders are important in the implementation of the capstone project change proposal pertaining to the disease control and prevention among marginalized groups. Their support is necessary for the success of the proposal. Internal stakeholders can help to promote the quality of the services that will be provided by the proposed project (Cho et al., 2020). For instance, the healthcare professionals can use their knowledge and skills to ensure that they provide quality healthcare services to the various marginalized populations targeted by the project (Nelson, 2014; Wu et al., 2019). The healthcare administrators can help to provide important leadership required to steer the change that is proposed (Halm, 2010; Shirley, 2016). It is important to note that the feedback of the consumers of the care services and the input of the external stakeholders can enable the internal stakeholders to understand what is actually needed for the project to be successfully implemented.

External stakeholders can play a significant role in providing the support that is needed for the project proposed to be successfully implemented. They can provide financial, material, and other resources that internal stakeholders require in order for them to perform their roles well (Wu et al., 2019). For example, the government can provide financial resources for the construction of more healthcare facilities in the areas inhabited by marginalized communities. It can as well provide funds for the training and recruitment of more healthcare providers (Bridges, 2015; Cho et al., 2020). These efforts can help to improve the targeted groups’ access to quality healthcare services. The healthcare insurers can help to provide medical cover to various patients (Cho et al., 2020). This can as well help to enhance the accessibility of care services. As the end consumers of the services that will be provided by the proposed change, patients can also play a supportive role in enhancing its successful implementation (Jeffs et al., 2013; Ndlela, 2019). Understanding their healthcare needs can help the internal stakeholders to understand what they need to improve on in terms of providing healthcare services.

There are three main strategies that can be used to secure the support of both external and internal stakeholders. Firstly, there is need to create awareness about the change project proposal (Shirley, 2016; Wu et al., 2019). This can be achieved through seminars conferences and other types of platforms that make it possible for stakeholders to be effectively engaged through interactive sessions.  Secondly, it is important to advocate for the support of the stakeholders through media (Wu et al., 2019; Cho et al., 2020). Both mainstream media and social media can be useful in the advocacy. Thirdly and lastly, it is also necessary to ensure that the stakeholders are involved in all phases of the implementation of the projects (Ndlela, 2019). There is need to ensure that they remain updated about the project right from the planning phase to the stage of end-term evaluation.
