Shoplifting

Property Crime and Typologies Performance Task

The charges for the three people will be shoplifting. According to the Criminal Code for the State of Georgia, shoplifting is termed as fourth-degree theft or petty theft. Therefore, this offense is punishable by a fine. This only applies to an offense that the value of the stolen items does not exceed $500. Since the crime involves more than 600 dollars (this is per the inventory sheet for the cost of merchandise stolen), the offense surpasses the misdemeanor charge. In Georgia, these offenses will be put under a felony. However, a judge may decide put it under misdemeanor (Clinard, Quinney & Wildeman, 2014). In my case as the District Attorney, my determination of charges of the crime committed by Skeeter Redrum, Summer Breeze, and Bubba Hurt will be a felony. This is per Georgia’s laws of shoplifting of properties over $300.

Penalties

The three criminals will be fined 200 dollars each with a jail term of five years. However, in addition to this, Bubba Hurt will be fined 300 dollars. This is because he has a criminal record of shoplifting among other offenses that suggests that he is a notorious criminal. This is per the definitions by reviewing the Criminal Code for the State of Georgia: Title 16 Crimes and Offenses: Offenses involving Theft found in the Document Library (Clinard et al., 2014).

Amateurs or Professionals

The three are professional criminals. Unlike professional thieves, amateurs are infrequent criminals who have a tendency to be opportunists. With less risk, they exploit a chance to steal. Normally, their actions are performed with less skill, are unexpected, as well as are the result of certain pressing state, like the necessity to cover for rent. Ideally, they resolve some instant disaster by stealing. In most instances, infrequent criminals commit some offense; a number of them commit just one crime (Clinard et al., 2014)

Professional burgles, stealing is their work. However, these thieves take pride in their job. The thieves are creative and imaginative in stealing as well as consent to its risks. The most common offenses done by professional thieves are shoplifting, forgery, and pickpocketing. Also, professional burgles take part in fraud, auto vehicle theft, and art theft using forged or stolen items (Clinard et al., 2014)

Basing on the scenario, probably, the three had planned to steal from the shop. Besides, they have at least a criminal record.

Types of criminal typology could be applied to the suspects based on your lesson notes

Topologies are systematic groupings of objects, which have mutual traits or characteristics to categories of a given system. An abstract class that is made up of aspects established around a mutual belief appropriate to a specific scrutiny. Typology construction remains a vital aspect of human thought as well as scientific study. Nevertheless, a criminal typology is described as a criminological model made controllable in an approach, which can be virtually practical to establish, categorize, and denote a series of behaviors, which infringe the law (Clinard et al., 2014). Criminal typologies remain essential in understanding, identification, and despondency to criminality. The court fails to react to offense with a one-size-fits-all style. Management strategies and sanctions among other aspects are highly reliant on variation of forms of criminals and crimes. Criminal typologies of criminals and crime offer info that to make laws, practices, rules, and pronouncements. They are employed at all court process stages. Criminal typologies are merely beneficial as it defines uniform types of criminal, is exhaustive or wide-ranging regarding the detailed tenacity, its types are equally special, is multifaceted enough with descriptive value, as well as modest enough to be practical in court practice and policy.  The type of criminal typology that could be applied to the suspects is sociological typologies (Clinard et al., 2014).

Ideally, based on these typologies, the federal and state criminal codes epitomize a typology that criminals may be positioned. For instance, criminals could be categorized based on the crime that they are accused of. Nonetheless, felonious codes fail to meet the stinginess standard; furthermore, criminals encroach upon diverse decrees over time that dares the mutual individuality need.

Experts in sociological criminology have tried to overwhelm these challenges with legitimate standards by forming criminal typologies, which allot individuals who involve in comparable pools of crimes to specific role careers, felonious behavioral systems, or felonious behavioral forms. Typological struggles have as well aimed at discovering criminal alliances that fellows share social setting issues as well as fundamental involvements. In a nutshell, criminologists have aspired at the identification of sociologically evocative kinds.

A sociological typology that directly applies to the scenario is that by Richard Quinney and Marshall Clinard, who employed both person-centered and offense-centered principles to describe nine felonious conduct systems that include those that involve infrequent property, public-order, and ferocious individual criminal behavior (Clinard et al., 2014). Also, they deliberated on the criminal occupations of criminals under these groups, suggesting that persons actually concentrate to some extent.

On the same note, Daniel Glaser as well provides a typological account of the three criminals in the case study. In his descriptions, he acknowledged ten criminal forms defined by career-commitment and offense-descriptive variables. In his sorts, the adolescent recapitulator involves in a variety of crimes; Glaser’s delinquency mirrors a disappointment to undertake a steady grown-up protagonist. His vocational predators commit an offense as an occupation. Basing on this sociological typology, shoplifting establishes another group of addicted behavior (Clinard et al., 2014).

Glaser’s system displays some faults. It overlooks a number of criminals, like political offenders convoluted in a political demonstration, as well as criminals of comparatively minor crimes, which are at times referred to as folk offenses, for instance, traffic desecrations or game and fish law desecrations. Also, the adolescent recapitulators along with a number of other forms remain founded on fundamental developments unraveling these criminals, instead of their criminal careers and patterns.  Although Glaser’s accounts of the forms offer substantial aspect unswerving with numerous studies on criminals, his typology fails to explain in simple terms the finding traits of the criminal groups with enough correctness; it would be tough to allocate a populace of definite criminals to these kinds (Clinard et al., 2014).

In summary, typological construction remains an important component of the scientific study and human cognition. Typologies of criminals and crime deliver info with which to make decisions, policies, practices, and laws. Typologies are employed at complete phases of the court.
