On 15th January this year, Qatar Airways made a post on its official Facebook page in which the airline congratulated its cabin crew for helping a female passenger successfully deliver her baby mid-flight. In the three-paragraph post, Qatar Airways impressively communicates to the world about the competence, passion, and dedication of its crew towards safeguarding passenger wellbeing. While the post is primarily about recognizing and appreciating the cabin crew for their excellent work, the writer demonstrates professionalism and tact in the phrasing of the message. The post begins by welcoming the newborn baby, while in the second paragraph, the writer pens down the main message. The last paragraph expresses Qatar Airways wishes to the baby and mother. This creative organization of points shows the quality as well as impact of the post.
The post may only be three short paragraphs long, but it arguably has a huge positive impact on readers. One may be led to believe that the person who wrote the post is a skilled writer who understands the impact of brevity. The post is likely to leave readers awed while at the same time wanting to get more details on how the whole experience was. Thankfully, and remarkably too, the post contains a link where readers can find full information about the incident.
Much as the clarity, quality, and impact of the post cannot be challenged, there is one that could be improved. The writer appears to give a lot of credit to Qatar Airways cabin crew for the safe delivery. However, the true picture, according to Vennavally-Rao (2022) is that the presence of a doctor, a nurse, and a pediatrician in the plane contributed significantly towards the woman’s safe delivery. In fact, the impression created by the comprehensive report is that all the flight crew did was to pose “with the newborn” (Vennavally-Rao, 2022 para.14). While not doubting that the flight crew is trained to handle emergency situations, it would only be fair to acknowledge the cooperation of the passengers.
