How do cultural elements (beliefs, values, and norms) influence the decisions you make at work? How does your culture influence how you present yourself at your workplace?
What are some behaviors associated with your industry or the job you perform? What cultural elements help you maintain a healthy work-life balance?
Make connections: Consider how the values you outlined in your organizer connect with the overall workplace cultures and values:
What similarities and differences are there?
How does your own culture mesh or conflict with the workplace culture? How could your culture, values, and beliefs be misunderstood?

Impact of beliefs, values, and norms
As a Latin American, my culture is an incorporation of various cultures, given that Latin Americans have coexisted and got along with other cultures for a long time. As such, I have learnt how to coexist with various cultures. I appreciate diversity, hence making it easy for me to work with people from different cultures. Some of the beliefs, values, and norms associated with my culture include respect for other people, uphold the dignity of life, and honestly earn a living. There is also a special position that is taken by a supernatural being who is in control of most of the things that are happening. My decision-making is based on these values. Whenever I make a decision, one principle that the decision should exhibit is that the decision should accommodate most of the people, if not everyone, in my work environment. Even the people from the same culture are likely to exhibit some differences. These differences become even complex when we interact with each other in a diverse workplace. Making accommodative decisions is one way of embracing diversity.
Influence of culture on workplace presentation
Considering the ways in which culture influences the way I present myself at work, I do bring my whole self to work, knowing that the company counts on my input to succeed. As such, there is less room for being irresponsible or unethical behaviors such as coming to work late, listening to music in the work environment, communicating carelessly with the employees, or even dressing inappropriately because all these portray a negative image about the organization (Sopow, 2006). In my culture, work is believed to be a sacred thing that should be pursued with much dedication and excellence. This is what gives us a sense of satisfaction and fulfillment, after knowing that you did your best, your contribution mattered, and now you have the result either as an individual or an organization.
Behaviors associated with my job and cultural elements that help maintain a healthy work-life balance
The behaviors associated with my work entails portraying the highest standards of integrity, especially at this time when the levels of corruption are high. It is expected that people are accountable for everything that happens in their respective work areas in the workplace. Other behaviors like respect and the use of appropriate language in the workplace are also embraced at all times. As for the cultural elements that help maintain a healthy work-life balance, my culture imposes that work should only be used to make human life better, and therefore one should always create time for their family, to reflect on personal life, and also for the creator (supernatural being).
Connection of values with overall organization culture
Most of my cultural values are well synchronized with the organization’s cultural expectations. As mentioned earlier, excellence in the workplace is a very important value because it is directly proportional to organizational performance. My personal values also dictate that I should work diligently to get results as expected by culture. There is also an emphasis on cultural competence in the organization with which I am well aligned. There is always beauty that comes with diversity as it has many positive implications for a workplace setting (Manley, Sanders, Cardiff & Webster, 2011). Other values, such as integrity and accountability, also make one fit in without facing the workplace disciplinary committee all the time. Considering how my culture conflicts with the workplace culture, there is a sense in which my culture expects that men should be leaders starting from the level to even organizational contexts. This may not always apply in the workplace because of the policy for gender equality, which applies in all aspects, including job promotion.
How I am perceived within the organization
I am perceived as a very ethical employee who would do everything possible to accomplish my work objectives or daily mission. They look at me as a person who is supportive and can be approached by anyone. I appreciate diversity and always willing to learn new aspects from other cultures.
Recommendations for improving workplace culture
Workplace culture would be improved by promoting elements that underscore diversity in the workplace. Diversity is associated with different talents and high levels of productivity. A policy for diversity should be in place. The organization should also stay true to its core values. The values speak passionately to what the company stands for. Finally, cultural day activities can be incorporated into an organizational calendar (Cole, Oliver & Blaviesciunaite, 2014). Here, different cultures are recognized and appreciated, with the intention of creating a team atmosphere.
