Dissemination Methods of Your Evidence-based Change Proposal, Reporting, & Communication Strategies
Dissemination of evidence-based practice involves passing important information about a proposed change to a given healthcare audience. The goal of this process is to ensure that vital knowledge pertaining to evidence-based interventions is shared for the purpose of promoting its application in improving patient outcomes (Giomuso et al., 2014). Any effective dissemination of information is often characterized by meaningful engagement of the audiences involved in order to enhance their awareness of the benefit of the proposed project. There are two main methods of disseminating information on evidence-based change: internal and external. Internal dissemination entails sharing information within an organization (Sarver & McNett, 2019). On its part, external dissemination involves sharing the information with groups outside the organization (Sarver & McNett, 2019).
The goal of the current evidence-based change proposal is to put in place important initiatives or measures that can help to promote effective disease control and prevention among marginalized groups. For the sake of this project, a hospital board can be used as the internal method of disseminating information. The hospital board in this case involves various employees of the healthcare organizations who are concerned with the delivery of various healthcare services (Cain & Mittman, 2012; Spruce, 2015). These include physicians, nurses, and other types of professionals. The board may also entail other important stakeholders who have the responsibility of making major decisions at the hospital level (Stetler et al., 2014). Examples include healthcare managers, directors, and other leaders.
Information about the proposed project can also be disseminated externally. An example of the external method of dissemination is sharing this information with professional nursing organizations like the American Nurses Association. Such organizations provide ideal platforms through which information can be shared with large audiences of healthcare organizations. This helps to ensure that the information is spread quickly to many people who are targeted by the process (Cain & Mittman, 2012; Giomuso et al., 2014). This is unlike in the case of internal dissemination of information whereby the information only reaches the targeted audience of a given healthcare organization.
Reporting the results of the change proposal to both the internal and external groups is important since it ensure that important information is shared within the health care fraternity. The information can be useful in making important healthcare decisions. This can in turn lead to positive patient outcomes (Giomuso et al., 2014; Melnyk et al., 2014). It is also important to note that reporting the findings can help to generate constructive criticism from the groups. The criticism of results can give the project them an opportunity to make important changes that can help to ensure that the project proposal is improved before it is fully implemented (Makaroff et al., 2014).
During the process of disseminating information to the targeted audience, there is need to adopt different communication strategies. This depends on the group that is receiving the information. For instance, if the information is targeting the hospital board, it will be important to use a personal form of communication since this group comprises colleagues in the practice or profesion (Spruce, 2015). An example is using face-to-face communication. This strategy facilitates interaction, questioning, and instant feedback. On the other hand, if the information is targeting an external entity like a professional nursing organization, it may be necessary to use formal communication strategies (Makaroff et al., 2014; Spruce, 2015). An example is submitting research findings on the usefulness of the change that has been proposed. Using an official external platform can enable many healthcare professionals to access the information. This can in turn help to ensure that the projected change is effectively implemented within a single healthcare organization.
